All you need to know about renting a car
Cars are divided into car groups, these groups are determined according to four criterions:
When ordering a car from a rental company, know that usually the rental company agrees to provide a certain car group, and not a specific type of car/engine. Before ordering the car, try to consider the type of vacation/visit you are planning to have, and order the type of car accordingly. If you have a lot of luggage, try to get a more spacious car. Know that in Israel, it is most common to get automatic cars with air-condition, especially during the summer when the weather can get very hot.
The price of a rental car is comprised of two parts:
The basic first set price usually won't include insurance for other drivers, a fee for young drivers (under age 25), GPS,
a baby booster, a sun roof and snow chains. If one or more of these accommodations interest you, it is advised to check if they
are included in the deal. If they are not included, ask their price for the length of the rental, and if they should be ordered
in advance. Some additionals if requested when picking up the car, will intail paying the local tax fee.
Other additional charges could be taxes on air polution, handling fees in Ben Gurion Airport. Sometimes these are already included
in the prices.
If you are an Israeli citizen, you will be charged VAT aswell.
Again it is important to remember that insurance is mandatory in Israel. This means that every driver who is intending to drive the rental car, must purchase insurance.
